Basil essential oil is extracted from the herb Ocimum basilicum. This sharp smelling essential oil is used in aromatherapy to a large extent. It is a pale greenish-yellow in color and gives a greenish hue to substances in which it is used. The plant basil is usually found in North Africa, Cypress, Seychelles, India and Europe. Basil essential oils have various therapeutic properties. Basil essential oils also have cephalic, diaphoretic and digestive properties.

Even though basil essential oil usually stimulates, in excess it can have a stupefying effect. It should not be used during pregnancy or on children under 16 years. Since it can irritate a sensitive skin, it must be used with care on people with sensitive skins. As such, you have to determine the difference between essential oils and perfumes. Even though both maybe inspired f the same tones and extracts they serve different purposes. Essential oils are stronger and can be used in various ways and offer therapeutic benefits whereas perfumes are simply ornamental.

Special care and precautions must be taken while using essential oils during chemotherapy treatment. It is always preferable to dilute essential oils with other carriers. Areas of skin that are afflicted by cancer should always be patched when essential oils are used. This is done to safe guard the skin against reactions, as patients with cancer are more susceptible to skin reactions. The masseuse should be a qualified therapist and must confine the massage to non-cancerous areas.

Essential oils of Lemongrass, Dill and Caraway are all thought to have anti-carcinogenic properties. Even though essential oils cannot cure cancer, but can help in other ways with their anti-infectious and stress relieving properties. These oils can form the base of a perfume but their usage is independent. Essential oils are not a replacement for perfume even though they can recreate a similar magic.
